Yes. Public-university fees average NZD 28 000 vs. AUD 38 000 in Australia. Cost of living is also 10–15 % lower.

Most degrees require IELTS 6.0–6.5, but Foundation pathways accept 5.0–5.5. Some universities also recognise Duolingo and PTE Academic.

Student-visa holders may work up to 20 hours per week in term and full-time in scheduled breaks.

Complete a level-7 (bachelor’s) or higher qualification and you can apply for a 1–3-year open work visa, leading to residence under the Green List or Skilled Migrant category.
